INVITATION

You are cordially invited to attend our bi-monthly Jazz Jam as described below.

Announcement of the Jazz Jam
1st Friday and 3rd Wednesday of each month
7-9 pm
(come in east door)
($2 admission fee)

ALL ARE WELCOME (All Ages)

Musicians will play from lead sheets. Some music for Vocal, Trumpet, Clarinet, Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Trombone, Guitar/Banjo, Bass/Tuba, and Drums will be provided but please bring your fake books. Most music will be lead sheets (melody line and chords) but some will also be arranged in detail.

We will be playing old style music often called "traditional jazz." It has simple melodies and simple chords and chord progressions. Some of the music will be in a style often call "dixieland" although we do not intend on making these only dixieland jam sessions. We will do blues, standards, ballads, and some sort of country that fits the instrumentation.

The sessions will be very informal and much like the early days of jazz where players just got together and played without formalities. Improvisation and music innovation will be encouraged. Everyone does not play at the same time. We will rotate players in and out in the rhythm section (drums, piano, bass, banjo/guitar) and the front line (horns, vocals).

This is early day jazz played or sang by the greats such as Louis Armstrong, Joe Oliver, Bix Biederbeck, Billy Holliday, Bessie Smith, New Orleans Preservation Hall, etc.

CANCELLATIONS: If the Jazz Jam has to be cancelled, I will notify you by 3pm of the day of the Jam. If Heartland has to close due to weather or other conditions, the Jam will automatically be cancelled because we will not have access to the building. Heartland announces closings on AM radio station KASI 1430am in Ames.
